Winter Readiness For Your Home

The days are getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping, which means winter weather is right around the corner. With the snow filled days ahead, there are a few things to start thinking about to make sure you’ll be ready for what Mother Nature throws our way.

With the memories of last winter still giving us chills, packing and maintaining a Winter Safety Kit will help ease the stress of blizzards, ice storms and possible power outages. Plus, being prepared will help ensure the safety and warmth of you and your family this winter season.

When the flakes start to fly, most people reach for a shovel or ice scrapper. Although these seem like obvious winter safety tools, they are also the hardest to find after the first snow storm.

Some other items to include in your Winter Safety Kit are:

  • Non-perishable food that is easy to prepare, such as energy bars and cereal.
  • A first-aid kit which includes any additional medication you may require.
  • Battery operated lanterns, a clock and radio (and extra batteries).
  • Candles and matches.
  • One gallon of water per person per day (a three or four day supply is recommended).
  • An extra battery pack or solar charger for your cellphone.
  • Disposable plates, cups and plastic utensils.
  • A deck of cards, a board game, or some other activity to keep your family amused.
  • Extra gas for your snow blower and vehicle.

If your home is heated by propane or heating oil, it is always a good idea to make sure your equipment is clean and in good working order before the heating season. Also, being set up for auto-delivery will help eliminate the worry of making sure your tank is full.

Being prepared can help take the worry and stress out of the upcoming winter storm season. For more information on ways that Irving Energy can help make sure you are prepared for the season ahead, you can always reach us at 1.888.310.1924.

Stay safe this winter!

Halloween Safety for Your Home

As little ones become filled with excitement for Halloween, we should all make sure our homes and yards are ready to welcome the extra visitors Halloween will bring.

Here are a few tips for a spook-tac-ular Halloween:

  •  Make sure that your home and front door are well lit so that trick-or-treaters can easily identify where to go to collect their goodies.
  • Sweep up any loose leaves on your walkways to avoid trips and falls.
  • Park your car in the garage or to one side of the driveway so that trick-or-treaters have easy access to your home.
  • Lit candles are not the only way to light up your jack-o-lanterns. Try using flashlights, battery operated tea lights or glow sticks for a creative alternative. Not only does this eliminate a fire hazard, it also allows you to tend to your trick-or-treaters without worrying about the wicked wind blowing out your flame.
  • Pets should stay away from the door to keep them – and your visitors – safe.
  • Keep in mind that some children have allergies, so if you can, avoid treats that include nuts, which may trigger an allergic reaction.
  • Testing your smoke alarm, motion detector lights and security systems are good practice. Halloween is a great annual reminder for these checks – especially with illuminated decorations and extra traffic to and from your home.

If you have little ones heading out to spook the neighbourhood, remember to make sure that their costumes fit properly, and add reflective tape to make them visible in the dark.  Wear light coloured clothing and tell your children to wait until you have checked their treats before they eat them.

Often, what we also find scary about Halloween is that it reminds us that the cold weather is just around the corner. If Old Man Winter is someone you are fearing, we have Cap Pricing Plans that help make the months ahead less scary.

Your friends at Irving Energy wish you a safe and happy Halloween!

Advantages of Propane Heating

Propane heating has many advantages.

Cost and Equipment Efficiency

When it comes to home heating, propane furnaces have many advantages. A propane furnace or boiler traditionally operates at efficiency levels above 90% plus.

If your home has an older heating system there may be an opportunity for you to save some money by converting to a new high efficiency propane system.

Versatility

Propane furnaces and boilers come in all shapes and sizes, therefore allowing more flexibility with placement and they can be used for more than just heat. They can be used for cooking, heating your pool and garage, drying clothes and you can even hook it up to your BBQ.

Commercial Fixed Price Program Now Available

We are pleased to announce our commercial fixed price program is now available for propane and heating oil.

This year, for the first time, we are offering a 12 month fixed price option on propane in addition to heating oil. This is a good option for customers who simply want the comfort of knowing what their price will be for an entire year.

We understand there are many things to worry about when you are running a business. Fixed pricing is an easy solution for business owners that need to stick to a budgeted energy cost and focus on growing their business.

If a 1 year fixed propane or heating oil price offer is not for you, we have other pricing options to suit your business needs.

Whatever you decide, Irving Energy encourages you to have all the facts so you can make a decision that’s right for you. We’ll provide you with the resources and information you need to make the best possible decision. If you have any questions, or would like to lock in your price now, give us a call at 1.888.310.1924. We’re here to help.
