Delivery

What is automatic delivery and how does it work?

Automatic delivery uses sophisticated computer software to predict when you’ll need your heating oil or propane delivered. This software considers things such as the size of your home or building, your usage rate and even the temperature outside. We are constantly re-calculating delivery dates to ensure you always have fuel in the tank to keep your home and family cozy.

If the weather gets colder, we will adjust your delivery date. And, with each delivery, the software has new information to further improve its ability to predict – so your deliveries just keep getting more accurate!

Automatic delivery is also a great solution for keeping a second home or cottage warm.

Why should I consider automatic delivery?

With automatic delivery, you get peace of mind. We monitor your usage and book deliveries as you need them, so you don’t need to worry about constantly checking your tank and remembering when to call for a delivery. Life is just too busy these days – let our automatic delivery program take care of you.

How do I schedule a delivery?

If you are running on empty, we want to get you oil as soon as possible. Call us immediately at 1.888.310.1924 and we will dispatch a truck to you as soon as we can, based on our delivery schedules. Call to confirm delivery in more remote markets. Click here to see if we deliver in your area.

Is there a special delivery charge if I need an emergency delivery?

If you need a delivery and are not one of our automatic delivery customers, there could be a delivery fee of $95 – depending on your location and our scheduled delivery route. However, if you are on automatic delivery, there is no fee.

Digging or Renovating?

Are you renovating your home or landscaping your property?

Digging during renovations could damage your underground propane lines, telephone, hydro and cable TV wires, as well as water and sewer connections. This could cut off service not just to your home, but to the entire neighbourhood and cause a safety risk to yourself and others.

If you’re going to be digging in your yard, please give us a call at 1.888.310.1924 so we can send a technician to locate and mark your underground propane line.

You should also call DIG LINE before digging. Please call 1.888.DIG-LINE (1.866.344.5463).

Propane is a safe and efficient fuel that can be used throughout your home for heat or to run appliances.

How are propane prices set?

What should I do if I think there is a propane leak?

A propane leak can smell like rotten eggs. If you suspect a propane leak, it is important to follow these steps:

  • Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames. Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones or mobile devices, including cell phones. Flames or sparks from these sources could trigger an explosion or a fire.

  • Shut off the gas. Turn off the main gas supply valve, if it is safe to do so. To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).

  • Leave the area immediately. Have everyone evacuated from the building or area where you expect gas is leaking.

  • Report the leak. Call your local fire department or dial 911, then call our Irving Energy team at 1.888.310.1924 from a building or area away from the gas leak.

Remember:

  • Do not return to the building or area. Only return to the building or area when your local fire department and your Irving Energy Technician determine that it is safe to do so.

  • Get your system checked. Before you attempt to use any heating source or appliance, we recommend you have a qualified Irving Energy Technician inspect your system to ensure that it is leak-free.

How often should my propane equipment be cleaned?

Before heating season arrives, have an Irving Energy technician clean and service your home heating equipment. It is recommended that you have your system cleaned each year. After winter arrives, clean snow and ice from tanks, regulators, appliance vents, piping, tubing and valves, being careful not to damage the tank or system components. A broom works well.

My propane equipment isn’t working – what do I do?

If you see damage to the lines or if your tank has shifted position, turn off the main gas or oil supply valve to your tank, if it is safe to do so. Once the supply valve has been turned off, call us at 1.888.310.1924 for further assistance.

I am renovating – do I need to worry about digging on my property?

Digging during renovations could damage your underground propane lines, telephone, hydro and cable TV wires, as well as water and sewer connections. This could cut off service not just to your home, but to the entire neighborhood and cause a safety risk to yourself and others.

If you’re going to be digging in your yard, please give us a call at 1.888.310.1924 so we can send a technician to locate and mark your underground propane line.
