Irving Energy Presents Energy Efficiency Award to Gerald and Marilyn Disher
On May 12th, 2011 Irving Energy’s Johnny Grant, Senior Manager, Operations & Sales Eastern Canada, presented the award for Energy Efficiency Champion—Residential Sector to Gerald and Marilyn Disher at the 3rd annual Premier’s Awards for Energy Efficiency. This award seeks to recognize a property owner who is an advocate of energy efficiency and who has displayed leadership and best practices in residential energy efficiency.
Gerald and Marilyn of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, are the owners of a super efficient manufactured home. The creation of Gerald and Marilyn’s home was driven by Gerald’s curiosity for reaching new levels in energy efficiency, and he was able to reach his home’s level of efficiency with only an additional 5% cost to the normal cost of a manufactured home. This was accomplished through very high levels of insulation and thorough air sealing. Gerald and Marilyn’s home also incorporates passive solar heating, maximized through the use of south-facing windows, and a geothermal heating system with ventilation through a heat recovery ventilation unit.
Gerald’s goal is to ultimately create and broaden the market for energy efficient manufactured homes. He hopes that his home will not only be a model for energy efficiency, but an inspiration to others looking to build an energy efficient home.
